New Landscapes in Ronneburg, Thuringia
The Rose Garden

The Rose Garden at the Federal Garden Show 2007 covers an area of 5000 m2 and was the largest modern rose garden to be constructed in Germany in recent years.
The level site lies in front of the former manor house of Ronneburg and was committed solely to the display of roses and accompanying flowers.
The beds radiate our from the manor terrace into the landscape. A conscious spectrum of colours, beginning with white and yellow at the terrace, blending into red then into violet and blue in the distance, are the main design aspect. The intensity and type of rose varies the further one walks from the terrace.
Embedded in the overall design are various themes and uses of roses. Visitors can at all times touch and smell the plants by using an intricate system of paved and grass pathways.

Spring and summer planting schemes

The design for the main attraction at the entrance to the Federal Garden Show consists of a boom 600 m long and 30 m wide band of spring and summer flowers.
The spring planting scheme used a central taller band of Tulips in mixed colours, which created a contrast to the spring flowers of the adjacent beds. An explosion of colour created by 120.000 tulips coincided perfectly with the opening of the snow.
In summer taller flowers in yellow tones were used in the main band. The adjacent beds were exhibition areas for lower species and varieties. Approximately 70.000 summer bedding plants delighted the visitors for the whole summer season.
