The European Rosarium in Sangerhausen, on the southern edge of the Harz mountains, is home to the largest collection of roses in the world. Over 8300 species and cultivars grow in a landscape park of approxmately 12 Hectares. The Landscape Masterplan project entailed an analyses of the existing botanical garden and then provides a long-term development concept.
Since Unification the Rosarium has regained its central location in Germany. Its new role and development potential demand extension areas as well as a better design concept.
The Development Concept allows optimal vehicular and, especially, pedestrian access for the new extension area, respects historic preservation regulations and includes a reorganisation of existing facilities and the rose collection.
The design of the extension area is modern and also presents roses in a modern context. Old and new are combined into a whole and the different design languages and historic origins remain clear and understandable.
