Description
The construction of the ‘English Garden’ in Meiningen was begun in 1782. It was not, however, possible to find an overall plan from that time and its assumed realisation took place in many phases. An overall reorganisation of the park took place in 1850.The ‘English Garden’ in its present form is a beautiful landscape park containing many small buildings and ‘follies’, some dating back to the park’s origins. Apart from the contrasting open lawn meadow areas and shady groups of trees and shrubs, the water landscape forms the most unique component of the park.
The Historic Development Plan provides an overall long-term concept for the park. First priority is resolving the ecological problems of the lakes and watercourses.
