Description
The Secondary School 'Schillergymnasium' is a protected heritage building from the 1930’s and is located in the western part of the city of Weimar. The main goals of the project were to renovate and rebuild the damaged and very high natural stone retaining walls as well as a redesign of the schoolyard. It was necessary to find a compromise between the retention of historically valuable components and providing facilities for modern day use.
Areas of the site hitherto unused were included in the new design in order to offer adequate space and possibilities for the children. The character of the project is defined by a large multifunctional schoolyard, raised lawn play areas and a large grid of trees in the entrance area.
