Description
The landscape of the north of Tunisian coast is defined by mountains and grandiose views. The vegetation has a distinctly mediterranean character and most of the hills are covered with rich, green forests of cork oak and pine. Tabarka, approximately 170 km north-west of Tunis, is the site for this new year-round tourist resort. The project is located in the bay of Tabarka, directly on the coast, and covers an area of approximately 8,3 hectares. The club complex offers 300 rooms, an extensive pool area, restaurants, well-fit centre and sports facilities. The scheme for the gardens and external areas combines many requirements; it responds to the scale and qualities of the architecture, all functional aspects of the club and creates beautiful and exciting spaces blended into the local landscape. Indigenous trees, especially pines, together with low 'maccia' shrubs provide spatial definition in the fringe areas whereas palms and exotic deciduous trees dominate in the representative core areas. The scheme unites elements of the englishlandscape park with forms from the islamic garden tradition. The axis reception-pool area is dominated by linear water features with fountains edged by rows of palms and formal grids of deciduous trees offering shade and comfort in the hot tunisian climate.
